Quebec confirms 61 more coronavirus deaths as cases pass 50,000

The Quebec government revealed that the province’s COVID-19-related death toll has reached 4,363, after announcing 61 more deaths since Thursday afternoon.

There are a reported 530 new known cases of the coronavirus, according to the Santé Quebec website. That brings the confirmed total to 50,232 known cases with 1,265 hospitalizations, 172 of whom are in the ICU.

Currently, a reported 373,567 tests have turned up negative throughout Quebec and over 14,600 cases have been resolved.

Montreal barbers, hairdressers, nail salons, tattoo parlours to reopen next month

Montrealers in need of a fresh hairdo only need to wait a couple of more weeks to get a professional haircut.

The Quebec Government announced on Friday that businesses offering personal care services will be allowed to reopen throughout the Montreal metropolitan area starting on June 15.

Services permitted to reopen include hairdressers, hair removal, skin care, nail salons, and tattoo parlours.

Canada extends ban on large cruise ships through to the fall

The Government of Canada is continuing to monitor the pandemic’s impacts on the marine and tourism sector and has extended the country’s large cruise ship ban into the fall.

Canada’s Minister of Transport, Marc Garneau, announced updated measures pertaining to cruise ships and passenger vessels in Canadian waters.

Cruise ships with overnight accommodations that have the capacity to carry more than 100 people are prohibited from operating in Canadian waters until October 31, 2020.

Montreal Museum of Fine Arts set to reopen next month

As the gradual reopening of Quebec continues, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts has announced it is reopening its doors starting Saturday, June 6.

Museums were part of the services that were deemed non-essential by the Quebec government in March and various health measures have now been put in place ahead of its reopening.

According to the MMFA, the museum has taken precautionary and safety measures in order to get the green light to reopen.

Quebec is the least worried about a potential coronavirus second wave: poll

Quebecers are the least worried when it comes to a potential second wave of the coronavirus, according to a new poll from the COVID-19 Social Impacts Network with the Association for Canadian Studies.

The study was published on Thursday as governments throughout North America start easing pandemic measures. The study found that 86% of Canadians were “totally concerned” about a second wave, with Quebec being the least worried, at 78%.

Ontario and British Columbia led the nation with 91% of residents feeling “total concern” about a second wave, according to the poll.
